Sending policy
DevelEmail protects shared sending reputation. Your use of the service is governed by the Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service.
Reputation tiers
Every organization has a reputation tier. It sets how much you can send.
| Tier | Daily cap | Per-minute pacing |
|---|---|---|
new | 200 | 10 |
established | 5,000 | 60 |
trusted | none | none |
restricted | 0 | 0 |
Hitting the daily cap returns 429 daily_limit_exceeded. Per-minute pacing
doesn't reject anything: mail over the cap stays queued and goes out as
capacity frees up, so a large batch is delivered over time.
Tiers are reviewed automatically:
new→established: the organization is at least 14 days old, has at least 500 delivered emails, a bounce rate of 4% or less and a complaint rate of 0.1% or less.established→trusted: at least 60 days old with the same bounce and complaint rates.trusted→established: after at least 100 sends, a bounce rate above 4% or a complaint rate above 0.1%.- →
restricted: after at least 100 sends, a bounce rate above 10% or a complaint rate above 0.3%, or 5 or more of your emails quarantined within 24 hours. Restricted organizations can't send (403 sending_restricted) until Emit lifts the restriction.
Content scanning
Outgoing mail is scanned for spam. Messages that score as spam are quarantined
and not sent (status quarantined). If the scanner is temporarily
unavailable, mail from new organizations is held rather than sent.
Delivery routing
Mail from new and restricted organizations may be routed through a relay
provider while the platform builds a sending reputation. This is
automatic and needs no configuration.
Domain warmup
Warmup is opt-in per domain. A warmed-up domain ramps daily volume gradually so mailbox providers learn to trust it. The schedule starts at 50 emails a day and roughly doubles each week. Warmup pauses automatically if bounces spike.
Suppressions
An address is suppressed, and mail to it is skipped, when it:
- hard bounces (added automatically),
- uses the unsubscribe link in your mail (added automatically),
- is added from a spam complaint report you submit to the API, or
- is added manually or by CSV import.
View, add, import and remove suppressions on the Suppressions page of the dashboard. Only remove an address if the recipient has asked to hear from you again.
Required for marketing mail
Campaigns must include an unsubscribe link, and your organization needs a physical postal address (set it under Settings). Campaign sends are refused without them.
